Hunted, part 2
In an abandoned farm root cellar, Oskar sat on the edge of the old sofa that served as Eli’s bed, staring down at a sheet of paper. In dim lantern light, it was difficult to read the carefully printed lines, and the ink was starting to run as tears landed heavily on the paper.

To my beloved Oskar:

Oskar stuck his hands a little deeper into the pockets of his parka, hoping to slow the penetration of cold through his gloves and into his fingers. It didn’t help much, but it made him feel better. He hustled along the final curve of Horsensgatan before it connected with 63.

Letters

I got the idea for this piece from a_contemplative_life and the excellent thread that he started: "Dear Eli; Dear Oskar". (Thanks, a_c_l.)
In that thread I had written a letter from Oskar to Eli in response to someone else's letter where Eli asked Oskar if he wanted to be turned. I have recycled my letter in this piece.

Chapter 10 - Eli's Dream

Chapter 10

Running through the woods
Run with me Oskar run fast like deer
I hold your hand we must hurry, hurry
I know you don’t understand
but trust me don’t stop

You are what I need
But not here in the dark woods,
not in the darkness
It must be there, I see it now I can hear it
Where the silver coldness comes down
Where darkness becomes light
That’s where I must be with you,

Oskar woke up. He had overslept; it was already past 4 p.m., according to the alarm clock on the floor by his mattress, and would certainly be dark outside by now. He stood and stretched.

Infected

Eli, I see you under the light of a jealous moon
on a bleak night.

Your dark beauty is magnified against the bleached
white innocence of fresh snow.

Cast your gaze upon me with those supernatural
eyes, for such is my desire.

Speak to me with the melody that is your voice and
I will be comforted.

Share your smile with me and reveal your true nature,
I am not afraid.

Open to me the dark recesses of your soul, I shall not
cringe.

Take my embrace and accept my warmth, I will not
withdraw.

Let me care for you. I am willing.

Tormented

Oh how my soul longs for you who is not real save only in my mind.

At night you come to me in my dreams and we are together until
the morning sun tears you from my embrace.

What a cruel tormentor the mind can be for it knows the desires
of the heart and the yearnings of the soul.

With such knowledge my mind teases and taunts me, there is no
rest.

At night I see you and hear you and feel your touch but it is your
soul I desire most for it intertwines perfectly with mine.

“Give me one more. And that’ll be about all I can do for now.”

“Okay. Hang on.” Oskar scanned the page of the algebra book he was holding. He lay on the couch with the book; Eli lay on her stomach on the floor, propped up by a pillow under her chest, with some worksheets in front of her.

Winter's Cold Breath

Oskar and Eli are not my characters, but I love them enough to write about them.

Winter's Cold Breath

The events in this story take place just a few days after the end of "A Song at Night"
Somewhere west of Östersund

The weather had changed in the hours shortly before the sun had risen. A cold front slipped slowly southeast out of the Arctic Circle, it's growing winds swirled a sea of clouds across the sky as silent as a distant avalanche.
